Brand Concept & Sustainability

Brand Concept

Elegy is a 1-woman indie brand, focused on creating Elegant Garbage Lolita clothing. Juxtaposing grungy, raw aesthetics and patchwork sewing techniques, with the elegance, attention to detail, and high quality of Lolita fashion; I aim to create something new and beautiful with this unlikely pairing. Each piece is truly one-of-a-kind - made almost entirely from hoarded Elegy scraps and cannot
be easily duplicated.

Sustainability & Recycling

I truly do have a heart for being earth-friendly, and I know the fashion industry is one of the worst in regards to it’s impact on our planet. With my new Brand Concept, I’m trying to make this a bigger focus. This is part of why I’ve never worked with factories or any mass-manufacturing operation. Everything in my shop is sewn by just me, and always has been (er- except for the tights, which I no longer do).

I’m trying to not buy as much new fabric - I have amassed an enormous amount of scraps that I’m enjoying working with, and getting to the point of having minimal to no-waste is the dream. I already have really low-waste anyways, but of course we can always do better.

Recycling is something I’ve pretty much always done as well. I finally phased out using plastic bags in my packaging in 2020(?), and switched to using paper bags/tissue paper instead. All the bubblewrap/air bags/non-usps boxes are re-used from shipments and packages I receive. My studio closet really is a stockpile of “garbage” lol. I plan on not using those tiny plastic tags anymore either, and instead use ribbon or string to attach tags to garments (I seriously have a box of like 10,000 of them that I bought back in like 2012 that just never seems to diminish lol).
